Founded in 1840 by our great-great-grandfather Khoje Mohideen Gundroo (1820-1876), the Gundroo Carpets & Shawls name was born in Kashmir through exceptional carpets and shawls at a time when Kashmiri craftsmanship was revered across the world and had already earned trust far beyond the valley.

Among the most respected manufacturers and exporters of the nineteenth century, Khoje Mohideen expanded the house from master craftsmanship into international trade through Calcutta, then a global trading metropolis and the principal port of the East India Company for Europe-bound commerce, supplying collectors, merchants, and private clients who valued originality, purity, and enduring handwork.

His vision, together with alliances with legendary Calcuttan families such as the Jagat Seths and Rais, helped bring Kashmiri handmade carpets and Pashmina shawls to the courts and estates of the Earls and Dukes of Britain and the Netherlands.

Today, Gundroo Carpets & Shawls continues that legacy through GUNDROOS', bringing together 120+ artisans across shawls, carpets, couture, and decorative craft, while sixth-generation custodians Mr. Idrees Gundroo and Mr. Hamaad Gundroo carry this 185-year-old legacy forward by combining rich heritage with modern horizons.
